Case Study
Edwardian “Teddy on wheels”
A gentleman brought this teddy into Artlab one day. He had ridden on it as a child and now wanted to repay the service given by his faithful friend and have him restored to good condition. As you can see his head was bowed and shoulders badly worn and one ear that had been used as a bridle by his rider was missing.
X-ray analysis
The first step was to x-ray the bear to see how his head was anchored. As you can see the wire and plate attachment had bent, so our conservators had to devise a repair which would provide renewed strength.
Teddy’s back “on the road”!
Restored and revitalized teddy’s back on the road: looking his age, but structurally sound and with both ears pricked.

Many items that are brought in to Artlab for treatment, have great sentimental rather than monetary value. If you have a precious item that you would like advice on, bring it in to one of our Consultation Days, please telephone us to make an appointment.
