Consultation Day Tips and Tricks
How to find us!
- Artlab’s fascinating and world-class work is often
described as one of Adelaide’s best kept secrets, but
we’re hoping our location is not! Click on the map on
this page to find out where we are.
It’s always best if you ring first to make an appointment to see a conservator.
- This way we can ensure that the right conservator is available to see you.
Pack your object safely before bringing it to Artlab.
-
Three-dimensional objects and textiles can be placed in a sturdy box and surrounded by crumpled tissue paper for support.
- Books, photographs and small items may fit into plastic storage containers you have around the house.
- A sheet of clean plastic or a cotton sheet can be used to protect the surface of paintings.
- Clean cotton towels are also useful to help cover and protect various objects and art works.
- Don’t try to unfold or flatten paper items before bringing them in for examination, as it may cause further damage.
- However you pack your item, try to minimise abrasion to the surface and movement of the item itself – don’t let it bump around in the back seat.
- Avoid leaving your items inside a hot car, as this can seriously damage susceptible materials such as paints, varnishes and waxes.
Bring everything
- If your object has been broken, bring all the pieces you possibly can – even the dust! (Put this in a zip lock bag for transport). The smallest piece can make all the difference to the item’s repair.
- Bring any relevant accessories – for example, buttons that have become detached from your textile item.
