Collection planning and preventive conservation

Artlab provides consultancies for the preparation and implementation of conservation plans and risk assessments for single objects through to whole collections.

  • Preservation and collection surveys for museums, libraries and archives

  • Risk assessments for storage and display areas, as well as for relocation and redevelopment programs

  • Disaster preparedness

  • Environmental monitoring services – Artlab has the expertise to monitor temperature, relative humidity, light, UV and pests and to advise on any necessary mitigation strategies

  • Treatment of items infested by pests, using low oxygen and modified temperature methods

  • Conservation management plans, to enable organisations to prioritise conservation work over a number of years

  • Strategy and policy development – ranging from handling guidelines for scanning or photocopying heritage documents through to national heritage management programs

  • Training programs – for example, on disaster preparedness, handling, environmental monitoring or the care of books and photographs. Artlab has delivered professional development training courses to over one hundred organisations throughout Australia and the East Asian region and can tailor a program to suit your needs.
